Firstly Walker Broad returns to The Beehive for a full band show , trading in folk and jazz infused bluesy-rock; think Steeleye Span meets Steely Dan, slick, smooth and exceedingly clever. If something more raucous is required then True Strays at The Victoria are what you are looking for, if what you are looking for is the sound of a bunch of jobbing raggle-taggle folk-blues wranglers playing for the dime and delight of juke joints and cowboy bars in the dustbowl days of 1930s America.

newpromo_b 11.15.37For obvious reasons many of the gigs this week are touting a Halloween theme, though it seems odd that a Celtic occasion of remembrance should be marked largely by the playing 80’s classic rock covers but that is the world that we find ourselves in.

Tonight there is, as is Thursday’s role in things, a plethora of original music to be had. The Basement Club can be found at The Victoria doling out their weaves of infectious indie and deft pop and joining them is the much talked about China Bears a band who have already caught the ear of many radio movers and shakers with their anthemic indie sound. Kaleido Bay open the night.

40922994_1038122389702686_5504215381138472960_oSome weeks this town is blessed with big name acts travelling through the parish boundaries, other times there are a few new and interesting options passing through from further afield and sometimes we are find wonderful blasts from the past in our midsts. This week though is mainly a real celebration of the bands that keep the local circuit alive. You will know most of the names, you have probably seen many before but as a show case of just how vibrant the local scene is and just how many great home grown bands we have, this week acts as the perfect showcase.

I say mainly as tonight offers a few options from across the county line and the most unusual of them can be found at The Victoria. Siblings of Us (pictured) are a band undergoing a transformation moving from the most mercurial and jagged two-piece synth wave band topped off with Bee Gee-esque vocals into the most mercurial and jagged three-piece electro-rock band…with Bee Gee-esque vocals. Reventure and Xadium also bring new ideas to the rock format.
